1and1 has great pricing and good up time but beyond there it is an average webhost. They have very good basic packages but are rather weak at providing custom support. The packages offered are average hosting packages and they don’t have a ton of bells and whistles. Overall 1and1 is an affordable host that works if you don’t need all the bells and whistles.

We have been using 1and1 to host our small company website for about two years. We have a dedicated server package. Overall, we have been satisfied with them — minimal downtime, fast servers, and responsive support. I would recommend them.

I’ve been using 1and1 for at least 5 years now. I am on a business account, and host numerous websites for a handful of clients. The only glitches or bad comments I can make are one site just stopped working one day, and I couldn’t figure it out. Tech support couldn’t either. I managed to find the problem perusing their online help, it was because I had exceeded the number of files in a directory that they allowed.
The other issue was when they stopped supporting Frontpage on their linux packages, and I wasn’t informed. Caused a bit of a bind for me with one client who used that for his site.
Other than those issues, been happy, still with them.

1&1 has great pricing and offer very competitive packages. I’ve used them now for about 5 months for a VPS which I host several sites from. The uptime has been perfect and the speed is also very good. Compared to other hosting companies I’ve used, this is by far the best bang for my buck. One thing that’s a bit frustrating is that they don’t secure the server for you. They do warn you that they don’t do this, so at least you’re aware. And they also direct you to a PDF that helps you secure the server for yourself, but other hosting companies I’ve been with have done this for customer. It’s not major problem, though. However, their customer service could be a major problem. I’ve only had to call them once with a question about how to add extra IPs to my account, and I was sent through several departments before getting to the correct one. Each time I was transferred I had to give all my information again so they could look up my account before transferring me to the next department that had no clue who I was. When I finally was sent to the correct department, I was put on hold for about 5 minutes while the service rep asked his supervisor about the answer to my question. My question wasn’t a difficult one, so this really should have been more routine. In this one experience with their service department, I left very frustrated and concerned about any future problems I may have. However, they did get an answer finally and I have had no other reasons to call in, so I feel pretty good overall about 1&1 as a host. I recommend them to anyone with experience only, as they could be troublesome for someone new to the process.

I’ve been using their Windows VPS II plan for a month now, and so far I’m very impressed. I had an unexpected reboot the first or second day, but since then things have been running without a hiccup. I’ve only shot customer service questions a few times, and they’ve always gotten back to me promptly.
The one downside of my hosting with 1&1 is that I also chose to purchase and administer my domain names through them. It takes much longer for DNS changes to propogate through them than it does with anyone else I’ve used.
